Conditions that may be helped with hypnotherapy

Conditions I Work With

Hypnotherapy may help with a wide range of issues, especially where thoughts, feelings, habits, bodily responses, or avoidance patterns have become self-reinforcing.

This page gives an overview of the conditions and issues I work with.

About Me

My name is Adrian Tannock. I am a CNHC-registered hypnotherapist and run Lasting Change Hypnotherapy Manchester.

I work with adults who want practical, psychologically informed support for anxiety, confidence, habits, phobias, smoking, procrastination, and related difficulties. My approach is active, collaborative, and tailored to the person rather than based on a one-size-fits-all script.

Conditions and Issues I May Be Able to Help With

If Your Issue Is Not Listed

The issues listed here are not the only reasons people come to see me. Often, the difficulty does not fit neatly under one heading. Anxiety may be tied to avoidance. Low confidence may be linked with self-criticism. A habit may be serving as a way to manage stress, discomfort, or difficult emotions.

Part of the consultation is to understand how the pattern works in your particular situation: what tends to trigger it, what you do to cope, what helps briefly, and what keeps the problem going over time.

My work combines hypnotherapy with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, known as ACT. This allows us to look at both the more automatic side of the problem and the practical choices available to you in everyday life.

If you are unsure whether this approach may be suitable, you are welcome to get in touch and arrange a consultation. We can talk through what you are experiencing, what you would like to change, and whether my way of working seems like a good fit.

Please note that hypnotherapy and ACT-informed work are not substitutes for urgent or necessary medical care. If your symptoms are severe, sudden, medically unexplained, or you are unsure what kind of help you need, it is sensible to speak with your GP or another appropriate healthcare professional.

How I Work

Hypnotherapy can be useful when a problem feels automatic: a fear response, an urge, a habit, an emotional reaction, or a familiar internal rehearsal that seems to take over before you have had time to choose differently.

ACT adds a clear psychological framework. It can help you become less caught up in difficult thoughts, feelings, urges, and bodily sensations, and more able to take action in line with what matters to you.

In practice, this means the work is not only about feeling calmer during a session. We may also look at how the pattern is maintained, how you respond when it is triggered, and what would help you move forward more freely in daily life.
